When it comes to helping babies and young children sleep better, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Sleep is a complex biological process, and while sleep training can play an important role, it is only one piece of the puzzle.


As a sleep consultant specializing in children from birth to age five, I take a multifactorial approach to sleep. This means I investigate the root causes of sleep challenges while providing personalized sleep plans tailored to each family's parenting style and their child's temperament.

  2. Sleep Environment: A conducive sleep environment is essential. Factors like room temperature, lighting, and noise levels play a significant role in helping children fall and stay asleep.

  3. Age-Appropriate Sleep Needs: Every child is unique, and understanding your child’s developmental stage and adjusting their nap schedules accordingly is critical to preventing overtiredness or under-tiredness.

  4. Emotional Well-Being: Sleep is not just a physical process; it is also emotional. Separation anxiety, developmental phases, or stressful environments can disrupt a child’s ability to settle peacefully.

By thoroughly assessing and addressing these underlying factors, we can set the stage for successful, lasting sleep improvements.

Once potential barriers to sleep are addressed, the next step involves introducing a personalized sleep training approach. I believe in using gentle, respectful, and responsive sleep training methods that align with each family’s values and a child’s individual temperament.

  • Gradual parent-led fading techniques to support a smooth transition to independent sleep.

  • Responsive comforting strategies to reassure children while encouraging self-soothing.

  • Customizing approaches based on the child's temperament—whether they need more reassurance or respond well to gentle boundaries.
